AMA President concerned about a US style managed care system

During his address to the National Press Club on 23 July, Professor Brian Owler, President AMA, raised the issue of concern that the Government is looking towards a US-style managed care system in both primary care and hospital settings. The AMA supports a strong role for private health insurers but will not allow private health insurers, motivated by profits and market share, encroaching into the doctor-patient relationship.
