Developing a Career and Skills in Academic Surgery (DCAS) Course

Surgical trainees, research fellows, early career academics, and surgeons who have considered involvement with the publication or presentation of academic work are invited to attend this one-day course to be held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne, Victoria on Monday 11th May 2020.

Highlights of this course include:

  • the hot topic; “First in Human Trials” will be presented by Professor Michael Vallely Department of Surgery, Ohio State University
  • the keynote lecture; “Disruption and Innovation in Academic Surgery”  to be presented by professor Peter Choong and Sir Hugh Devine Chair of Surgery and head of Dept of Surgery St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne
  • Eight speakers form the Association for Academic Surgery and invited International speakers
  • Concurrent workshop topics; “Trainee Led Collaborative Trials”, “Finding my Niche/Fit/Tools of the Trade” and “Collaboration”

This fully interactive course with a high faculty/participant ratio will help trainees acquire the skills required to satisfy the RACS research requirements and boost the academic content of their CV. The course covers topics ranging from identifying academic mentors to effective communication of novel research to achieving academic, clinical, and personal balance.
