ASPS advocates for the protection of patient safety in relation to scope of practice of health practitioners with the AMA.
The Optometry Board of Australia approved guidelines that expand the scope of practice of non-medical health practitioners to include prescribing privileges without or with limited medical practitioner involvement. The AMA are concerned that this may set a precedent to circumvent Ministerial approval mechanisms and impact negatively upon patient safety.
