Dr Brigid Corrigan elected as new President of Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons

Sydney. May 25, 2026.  The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has announced the appointment of Perth-based plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr Brigid Corrigan as its new President.

Dr Corrigan succeeds outgoing President Dr David Morgan and brings extensive clinical, educational and leadership experience to the role, having served on ASPS Council since 2020. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and works across both the public and private sectors with a special interest in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.

A passionate advocate for education and training, Dr Corrigan has played a significant role in teaching and mentoring the next generation of plastic surgeons and has served as an examiner for RACS since 2017.

She is also deeply committed to improving access to surgical care in developing countries through her long-standing involvement with the Rafiki Surgical Mission in Tanzania, where she has participated in eight volunteer missions and serves on the organisation’s board.

As President, Dr Corrigan said she would continue ASPS’ strong focus on patient safety, education and advocacy for the specialty.

Dr Corrigan said: “I’m honoured to be elected President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and look forward to leading our members in the ongoing provision of high-quality plastic surgery care to all our patients.”

“My priorities will include maintaining and promoting the high standards of specialist plastic surgery training in Australia, advocating for greater transparency around surgical training and qualifications so patients can make informed decisions, and ensuring recognition of the vital role the private sector plays in delivering surgical services to Australians.”

Dr Corrigan also highlighted the importance of maintaining a sustainable private hospital sector to ensure patients continue to have timely access to essential surgical care.

Outgoing President Mr David Morgan congratulated Dr Corrigan on her appointment and reflected on the achievements of the past two years.

“It has been a privilege to serve as President of ASPS and to work alongside such dedicated colleagues who are committed to the highest standards of patient care, education and professional integrity,” Mr Morgan said.

“Over the past two years we have continued to advocate strongly for patient safety, the future sustainability of private healthcare, and the important role specialist plastic surgeons play across the breadth of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. I wish Brigid every success in the role and know the Society will continue to thrive under her leadership.”

Dr Corrigan’s appointment is effective immediately.
