Clinical Associate Professor (A/Prof) Alexander Varey is a highly qualified and experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeon, who is accredited as a specialist in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Background A/Prof Varey is based in Sydney, Australia and has expertise in surgical oncology and skin cancer, cosmetic, hand, microsurgical and general reconstructive surgery. Following completion of specialist plastic surgical training in Bristol and Exeter (UK), A/Prof Varey undertook three further fellowships in Sydney at the Melanoma Institute Australia, Prince of Wales’ Private Hospital and Westmead Hospital. A strong research background that includes a PhD and many ongoing clinical research projects ensures A/Prof Varey is abreast of the best evidence to guide the management of patients. He has many high impact journal publications, edited two digital textbooks and leads the melanoma risk prediction tools website www.melanomarisk.org.au that is widely used around the world. A/Prof Varey was appointed as a Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital, Sydney in 2017 and has an academic appointment with the University of Sydney as a Clinical Associate Professor. He is also a Faculty member of the Melanoma Institute Australia, which is the leading melanoma research and treatment centre in the world.
