Professional Profile
Richard Lewandowski has been a fellow in both General and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for almost 30 years. He has also trained in Craniomaxillofacial surgery in the USA. He has been involved in teaching and research at the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland where he is a clinical Associate Professor. His interest are in the areas of Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Skin Malignancy. The former has lead to him founding Operation Smile Australia for which he was awarded a Queensland Great Award in 2004. The latter has lead to his establishing the Global Advances and Controversies in Skin Cancer meetings since 2013. He has assisted others with skin malignancy studies and higher research degrees and continues to collaborate widely with local research networks. He is currently enrolled as an MPhil candidate through the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland in the area of Psychosocial outcomes of completion Cleft Surgery. He is also the Director of Surgical Specialties and Junior Doctor development at the Mater Hospital Brisbane. This latter role includes directing young medical graduates into research at an early stage in their careers.
