Ethical Framework

The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons is a membership organisation with the mission to provide the highest quality plastic surgery care to all Australians.

In order to achieve this, it is vital that our members uphold high ethical standards when providing care to patients and within their broader professional environment.

The framework contains six ethical values and five ethical principles and articulates the expectations of plastic and reconstructive surgeons.

It has been designed for members to use as a reference point to help guide thoughts, discussions and decision-making in their surgical practice and the way in which they conduct themselves as a member of the specialty. The framework also forms the basis of decision making in relation to ASPS governance and activities.

It is anticipated that both individuals and groups will be able to identify, deliberate about and resolve complex ethical issues in a more structured and consistent way by utilising the framework.
